South African passport holders travelling to Senegal now need a visa to enter the country, effective July 1.

All applicants are required to first apply online for a biometric visa by visiting http://www.snedai.sn/en/.

All applicants then need to appear in person, with fingerprinting mandatory for everyone except children under 12. The children, however, still need to be present when an application is done. The enrolment (fingerprinting and photo) is required for each visa application even if the applicant had previously obtained several visas.

Visas can be collected by a third party, however the original copy of the receipt of enrolment, a power of attorney letter signed by the applicant and a photocopy of the applicant’s ID need to be presented.

The cost for the visa is €50 (R646), excluding the bank fee, for a visa valid for 90 days.
