The Knysna Turaco  (40-42cm from beak to tail, 260-380g) is one of a group of African near-passerine birds. In its surroundings of the treetops in mature evergreen forests, close to the coast of southern and eastern South Africa, it can be very inconspicuous. Yet it is unmistakable when seen. It was formerly classified as a subspecies of the Green Turaco of West Africa. Vocal and chromosomal differences have now led to it being classified as a specie of its own.
