Consider the nature of your journey. Will you be walking a lot and carrying your own bags/backpack? You can purchase a very well equipped light weight travel first aid kit, or pack your own basic kit. The five basics include head ache medicines, Imodium, anti-allergens, antiseptic cream and plasters. Don’t forget any of your own personal prescription medications. If you purchase a first aid kit you can always replace some of the items with a brand of your choice (e.g. paracetamol instead of aspirin). Learn basic first aid – a great life skill, if nothing else. At least learn how to use the contents of your kit. Don’t wait for an emergency to do it. The St John Ambulance website also has a very useful step by step guide to dealing with emergencies.
