An airline pilot has been arrested at Leeds Bradford Airport on suspicion of being drunk. The 54-year-old man, believed to be an employee of Pakistan International Airlines, was arrested at the airport in Yeadon, West Yorkshire. It is not known whether he had also been at the controls of an aircraft yesterday, or how police were alerted to his alleged condition. The man, a Pakistani citizen, is currently in custody, police confirmed. Pilots and cabin crew are subject to strict alcohol intake restrictions under UK law, with a legal limit a quarter of that which drivers face. If a pilot’s blood alcohol is above 20 mcg per 100 ml of blood they are breaking the law, whereas drivers can go up to 80mcg. Pakistan International Airlines is the national flag carrier of Pakistan, and a state-owned company. (Oliver Smith 19 Sep 2013) The case is not as bad as Matt’s cartoon.
