Most of today’s passenger freighters offering world cruises are French or German container ships, with approx. 20 international officers and crew on board, offering accommodations for 4 to 12 passengers on round trip, and longer one way voyages between the continents, only. The average port time is one day. Only a few general cargo ships are available today, such as the Rickmers New Orleans in the Pearl String service, offering eastbound transpacific and transatlantic voyages, separately or combined. The average port time for these ships is two to three days.

Eastbound ports include New York, Norfolk and Savannah. before a transatlantic Suez Canal transit, Tanjung, Pelepas, Hong Kong , Yantian , Shanghai , Pusan , transpacific to Seattle and Vancouver. Going westbound the same ports are visited.
